(시사1 = 윤여진 기자)주한미국상공회의소(암참,회장겸대표이사제임스김)가 15일‘제13회암참보건의료혁신세미나’를개최했다.이날행사에는한·미정부주요인사,학계및업계주요관계자들이다수참석한가운데, 'K-헬스케어산업의활성화방안과나아갈방향'을주제로발표와열띤토론이 이어졌다.
제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 CEO는이날 오전 서울 종로구 포시즌스 호텔 서울에서 열린 보건의료혁신세미나 개회사에서 "오늘 세미나에서는 새로운 기술이 보건의료에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 있으며, 이것이 보건의료 혁신 허브로 가는 한국의 길을 어떻게 변화시키는지에 대해 알아보려 한다"고 말했다.
그러면서"지금은한국이디지털기술과K-헬스케어를접목하여보건의료혁신허브로도약할수있는절호의기회"라면서 "코로나19상황이크게개선됐지만여전히신중해야한다"고 강조했다.
제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 CEO는 또 "전세계가함께뜻을모아의약품,의료기기,디지털헬스케어및개인보건의혁신을추진하여팬데믹의영향으로부터완전히회복되도록해야할때”라고말했다.
아울러 "한·미양국의적극적인리더십과강력한파트너십을통해집단적글로벌보건안보와코로나19대응노력을강화하며,다음유행병예방을위한역량을키울수있을것"이라고덧붙였다.
이날 행사는 포스트코로나시대국민건강증진을위한글로벌의료기기·제약기업의연구·개발분야기여에대한격려와주제별발표·토론을통한민관산학연간정책공감대형성및관련부처간협력을모색하고또한그발전방안을강구하기위해마련되었다.
국회보건복지위원회 강선우의원은 "오늘세미나를통해보건의료분야의현안공유와이해관계자간협력방안에대한논의를통해앞으로우리가나아가야할방향을설정하고,보건의료분야를넘어한국과바이든정부간의동맹강화로이어지기를바란다"고 강조했다. 또 "오늘도출될다양한의견과대안또한귀담아듣고향후로드맵에적극반영할수있도록세심한노력을기울이겠다"고 말했다.
이어 보건복지부 김헌주기획조정실장은축사를통해"올해대한민국정부는다양한행사개최를통해백신·바이오분야의국제적논의를활성화하기위해노력함과동시에한국보건의료산업의미래를위한국내제도정비및산업육성에도노력을기울이고있다"고밝혔다.
이어 "한·미양국보건부도최근양자면담을통해보건의료분야에서한·미양국의우선순위에대한공감대를확인하고,향후협력강화를논의하고있다"고 설명했다. 그러면서"오늘대담의주제처럼한국의보건의료혁신허브로도약하기위해데이터분야의기술교류,공동연구등을통한한·미양국산업간긴밀한협력이지속되기를바란다"고말했다. 아울러"정부도계속해서바이오헬스산업의미래를가꾸기위한노력을멈추지않겠다"고덧붙였다.
필립골드버그 주한미국대사는축사를통해"헬스케어산업의미래과제해결을위한헬스케어의혁신과재편성의필요성은재고의여지가없다"며 "실제로현재미국은전례없는디지털의약품과하드웨어제품의성장을목격하고있다"고 말했다.
그는또한"미국과대한민국이이러한도전과기회에어떻게대응하느냐가업계의미래에결정적인영향을미칠것"이라며 "한·미양국의포괄적경제·글로벌동맹이나아갈방향에대한기대와흥분을감출수없다"고 부연했다. 아울러 "정부와기업,개인이힘을합쳐공동의목표를달성하는것만이성공의열쇠"라고덧붙였다.
보건복지부 정은영보건산업정책국장은기조연설을통해‘새정부보건산업정책방향’을주제로팬데믹대비와글로벌도약을위한바이오헬스산업혁신방안을공유하였다"고 밝혔다.
법무법인태평양 송영주고문은‘한국보건의료시장의동향과과제’를주제로기조연설을했다.
연세대학교의과대학 송시영교수가좌장을맡은대담세션에서는 정은영보건복지부보건산업정책국장,법무법인태평양 송영주고문,메드트로닉코리아 이상수대표,한국글로벌의약산업협회 이영신부회장이패널로참석해‘한국의보건의료혁신허브도약방안’을주제로심도있게 논의했다.
올해로13회째를맞는암참의‘보건의료혁신세미나는암참의시그니처연례행사중하나로,매년보건의료산업민·관분야별전문가및주요이해관계자를초청해양국의보건산업정책과협력방안을모색하여오고있다.

December 15, 2022 - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM; Chairman and CEO James Kim) hosted the 13th AMCHAM Healthcare Innovation Seminar 2022 on Thursday, December 15, at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul. Representatives from key stakeholders from the Korean and the U.S. governments, academia, and industries to discuss the theme of “Shaping the Future of K-Healthcare.”
This event was designed to encourage medical devices and pharmaceutical companies to contribute to R&D in the post-COVID-19 era, form a policy consensus between public and private sectors, and devise ways to further develop these policies.
The event began with opening remarks by James Kim, AMCHAM Chairman & CEO. “Today’s seminar will explore how new technology is influencing healthcare, and how this changes Korea’s path to becoming a healthcare innovation hub. Now is the perfect opportunity for Korea to take the global leadership position in integrating this into our healthcare with K-Healthcare.” he said. He added, “While the COVID-19 situation has improved greatly, we must still be cautious. It will require global, coordinated action to drive forward innovations in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, digital health, and consumer wellness to ensure a full recovery from the effects of the pandemic.” He continued, “Through active leadership and strong partnership of the U.S.-Korea, we can implement measures to improve our collective global health security, bolster COVID-19 response efforts, and build capacity to prevent the next pandemic.”
H.E. Kang Sun-woo, member of the Health & Welfare Committee in the National Assembly, said, “I hope today's seminar will help us set the direction to move forward by discussing industrial issues and exploring better ways to cooperate to strengthen the alliance by Yoon-Biden administration in the healthcare industry and beyond.” She added, “I will listen to the diverse opinions and alternatives today do my best to actively reflect them in our future roadmap.”
H.E. Kim Heon-joo, Assistant Minister for Planning and Coordination of Ministry of Health and Welfare, said, "This year, the Korean government has been striving to promote international discussions in the field of vaccines and bio while also improving the domestic system and fostering industries for the future of the Korean health care industry. The governmental organizations related to health in both Korea and the U.S. have recently confirmed their consensus on priorities in the health care sector and are discussing strengthening cooperation in the future.” He added, “I hope that close cooperation between the U.S. and Korea will continue through technological exchange in the data field and joint research so that Korea can become a hub for health and medical innovation. The government will not stop trying to shape the future of the bio-health industry.”
The Hon. Philip Goldberg, U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, also delivered congratulatory remarks, saying, “There’s an unquestionable need to reimagine and transform healthcare to meet future healthcare challenges. Indeed, we are currently witnessing an unprecedented growth of digital medicine and hardware products in the United States.” He continued, “How the United States and the Republic of Korea respond to these challenges and opportunities will be critically important in 2023 and beyond.” He added, “I am excited about the direction of the U.S.-Korea comprehensive economic partnership and our global alliance. We can only be successful if governments, companies, and individuals work together to achieve common goals.”
The first session began with a plenary keynote presentation on “Health Industry Policy Directions of the New Government” lead by Jung Eun-young, Director of Bureau of Health Industry at the Ministry of Health and Welfare. In the following plenary keynote presentation, Song Young-joo, Senior Advisor of Bae, Kim & Lee LLC, explained “Landscapes and Challenges of the Korean Healthcare Market.”

How Data and AI are Reshaping Modern Healthcare.”
In the afternoon, the event featured breakout medical devices and pharmaceutical sessions, with the medical devices forum discussing “The Future of Healthcare? How Data and AI are Reshaping Modern Healthcare,” and the pharmaceutical forum discussing “The Road to Medical Innovation and Accessibility.”
Marking its 13th anniversary this year, the Healthcare Innovation Seminar 2022 is one of AMCHAM’s biggest annual events. The event has invited experts and key stakeholders in the public and private sectors to examine the policy landscape of the U.S. and Korean healthcare industries and ways to strengthening mutual cooperation.
